The Hillsborough, NJ Jr Raiders offers organized youth activities in tackle football, flag football, cheerleading, track & field and girls lacrosse and field hockey.
Our in-town league which is known as Hillsborough Football League (HFL) is segmented into 3 divisions based on grade, age and experience. Practice usually begins mid August and games begin in September. August practice are at Amsterdam School. During the school year, practices for all 3 divisions are at the Willow Rd Football Practice fields. All games for in-town teams are at the Hillsborough Football Complex. Each HFL game consists of 20 minute (running clock) quarters which offer each player plenty of playing time. Every player will be a starter for either Offense or Defense. All coaches must be certified by the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Program and attend our Jr. Raiders Coaches Clinic in the Summer. The in-town tackle program uses NFHS certified officials to further insure the safety of our players.
Division 3 This division is for our 3rd and 4th graders. Offense has a playbook and can only run a handful of plays and everyone will be running the same defense. This allows continuity for the kids to focus primarily on continuing to build their tackle football skills not figuring out who to block and what formation the offense will be using. *Begining mid August they will practice Monday thru Friday evenings. Once school starts they will practice twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays with games Saturday mornings at 11:00 AM.
Division 2 This division is for our 5th and 6th graders. This level will apply more advanced football play which includes and expanded playbook and limited special teams. The focus of this division is to prepare kids to play on JV and Travel football teams.*Beginning mid August they will practice Monday thru Friday evenings. Once school starts they will practice twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays with games on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
Division 1 This division is for our 7th and 8th graders. This level will play by the rules of the Junior Skylands Football Conference and mirror the playbook used by the Varsity Travel team. *Beginning mid August they will practice Monday thru Fridays evenings. Once school starts they will practice twice a week on Tuesdays
and Thursdays with games on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
* All days and times for practices and games are subject to change. Detailed schedules will be available during the Fall Season. Additional practices may be added. Depending on the number of teams per division, games may be played on some week nights. Sunday is a rain date for games when the township closes the Triangle Complex due to weather.
